Text and Video DetroitFires – “On 7/24/10 approximately 10:30 pm, Detroit Fire Department Engine 54 and Ladder 26 were dispatched to Stout and Fenkell on a report of “Heavy smoke in the area, possibly from a commercial building on Fenkell.” E54 arrived and reported a false alarm. Approximately 11:20 pm, Engine 54 was dispatched to Pierson and Schoolcraft to check for fire. Again, they reported a false alarm.
On their way back to quarters, Engine 54 reported they were investigating heavy smoke in area east of that location. Central dispatch then advised Engine 54 they had a report of a dwelling fire and would send them the box alarm assignment. Engine 54 arrived on the scene shortly after that and reported two separate dwellings, one on Patton north of Acacia, and one south of Acacia, going throughout. Engine 54 stretched and requested a box alarm to both locations.
Engines 54/49/57, Ladder 26, Squad 1, and Chief 2 handled the 2 story brick dwelling south of Acacia, and Engines 53/59/55, Ladder 25, Squad 5, and Chief two handled the single story dwelling north of Acacia. Engine 59 dumped their monitor on arrival and both fires took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish.
Again, an incredible performance by the Detroit Fire Department – Best department in the USA!”
